Quran for Cash!

Every year I sit there, ten days left before Ramadan ends and I haven't finished reading the qur'an, barely started.

Since the Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan, extra stress is placed on reading it and also finishing it by the end of Ramadan. However let us also remember that it should be done with some sort of feeling, it's not a race.

Ramadan is also a month of charitable deeds and giving, so in order to motivate my lazy self to finish the entire Qur'an by the last day of Ramadan, I will need your help!

The Koran consists of 30 parts. For every part I read and finish, I want you all to donate a fixed amount of money to a charity or a good cause. I will do the same, and update you on this blog whenever I have finished a part.

Muslims and non Muslims alike, let's all join for a good cause ey? (And help me get my lazy self reading!)

SS: Look forward to your update as and when you finish a part. It'd be also nice to know especially for us non-Muslims about the knowledge (you would have) gained after completing each part.

Thanks.

SS: Suggestion time. Why don't you ask your fellow contributors on this blog to write a post each about their Ramadan experience. They can write in terms of how they experienced Ramadan back home and how it looks now in the UAE.

I'm sure your readers (including I) would be interested to read about their experience.

Nostalgia, memories, etc.

Koshish karna zaroori hai!

Shukriya.

Kaya & SS: The Ramadan (or Ramzan the way we know it from back home) memories I can describe in one word 'Awesome' compared to here 'Dull'.

Back where I come from in Bombay and being a Catholic, I recall a spirit of Ramzan in the Air be it during fasting, iftar or suhoor time. There's a bond of togetherness, warmth & joy and to top it all off, every single bite of the humble pie is cherished.

Unfortunately, I've yet to experience a similar feeling in the Middle East.

Even my Fiance (she's from Ireland) experienced Ramzan in Bombay 2 years ago and says the same thing.

Maybe we're both biased but honest to God, it's the truth.

God Bless!

SS: I hope you'll share the teachings of the first part?

Do tell please. Thanks.

Awos, thank you for sharing your experience. I wonder why you feel that way. It's fascinating!

I will definitely share my thoughts in a post about the first part I read :) I haven't forgotten.

SS: To elaborate on the feeling, I would say warmth, togetherness and bonding with our brethren irrespective of our religion. It has yet to sink in here, as was, as is, based on my experience from back home in India.

I see what you mean awos. It seems the UAE hasn't really come that far, in terms of religious integration on a grassroot level, or?

SS: Allow me to cite in lay term here; the UAE is too rightwing in religion, as opposed to my experience, which was more left leaning. Having said this, bonding with our brethren is not about religion, is it?
